Volunteer with Us

We rely on volunteers to help provide safe and enjoyable activities to our clients. Our greatest need is for volunteers to serve during our weeknight, evening activities.

We would love to have you join us!

The Arc of Greater Williamsburg provides an average of 8,800 hours of program time for our members and respite time for their families and caregivers with the support of more than 1,600 volunteers each year.

Upon arrival, staff member/event coordinator will provide necessary information and direction for successful implementation of activity/event.  Arc staff will be available throughout event to answer questions and provide additional guidance.

Most volunteer opportunities last 1-3 hours, typically

from 6:30-8:30pm on Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Volunteers can help in a variety of ways:

  • Help escort clients safely in and out of the building

  • Assist with client check-in

  • Engage in the activity (e.g. exercise, crafts, etc.) alongside the clients

  • Distribute and collect name tags

  • Provide a positive, friendly, helpful, and trustworthy presence

  • Serve as mentors and role models

Volunteering for The Arc means joining a community of individuals that have unique personality traits and talents but who all share one attribute: kindness. There is much we can do for them, and we should take the opportunity to do so. However, they do even more for us by changing our hearts to be grateful and to love ourselves and those around us. There is so much to learn from the clients, other volunteers, and from all the people who lead events and I wouldn't be the same without The Arc!
